Readers of CD sleeve small print will know that Max has been providing guitar and vocal backups on the World Wide Message Tribe albums. But Max's own work is a long way from the electronic thud of sanctified dance, preferring instead the laid back lilt of the quality pop song. There are plenty in evidence on this latest collection (Max's third). "Your Story" has the barest of arrangements relying for its effect on the strength of the melody, delicious back up harmonies and a poignant lyric while in a different vein "Like A Ball" offers some angry grunge-style guitar. One day (hopefully soon) some clever record company will offer this consummate song craftsman a CD deal. Until that happens buy his tapes.
