Margaret Becker's 1989 album 'Immigrant's Daughter' is one of my favourite albums from an American CCM artist. That album contained an excellent collection of songs which display intensity and allow Margaret's talent its full potential. The production on 'Soul' is again by Charlie Peacock and again, it's superb! The musicianship is faultless and, as ever, Margaret's voice is tremendous. Margaret Becker is an accomplished singer. She's sung both with the New York Metropolitan Opera and in the coffee bars of New York and her voice has been compared by some to Annie Lennox and Kate Bush. Her Irish/German Catholic upbringing and her own admission to being the 'black sheep' of the family has provided the material for a number of her previous songs. The songs on this latest album may take a little while to grow on me - "This I Know" is very 'radio friendly' (always a big consideration for me!) and "I Wouldn't Know" is similar. "This Flame" is co-written with Rick and Linda Elias and lyrically it's an excellent contemplative 'worship' track. Margaret Becker is a quality artist and although she's chosen to work in the Christian music scene she has achieved as high a standard as many female artists in mainstream music. For fans watching this artist's career develop this album is a must.
