It's been a long and not always easy musical journey for the Welsh singer/songwriter but with this album he finally throws off any last traces of doubt that he has the chops to compete with the music world's finest. Maybe he'll never land that big hit demanded by the majors. Such things are in the hands of God. But with this album Martyn demonstrates a depth of compositional skill, a feel for memorable imagery and a passionate vocal style that for me puts him up their with the giants. Several magnificent songs here, like that painful anthem of relationship dislocation "Talk About It In The Morning", that seering apocalyptic "Everything In Heaven Comes Apart" with its dazzling Stewart Henderson lyrics and that achingly beautiful anthem to someone with Alzheimer's disease "Carried In Sunlight". Fine production by Mick Glossop and an album I'll be returning to again and again.
