Matthew Ward is of course one third of the 2nd Chapter Of Acts, and 'Fortress' is a superbly produced selection of 10 excellent songs. The material span Martin Luther's hymn "Our God Is A Mighty Fortress' (the title track), through to Psalm 3:33 (which is enough to cause many a riff-merchant to give up and go home). Matthew Ward's production complements the songs, not only focusing the listeners attention on the lyrics but supporting them. This is most definitely not a 'fix it in the mix' job. Of the instrumental parts, the bass used in the chorus of "Heaven Is Calling You" well deserves a mention. As you might have guessed I really do like 'Fortress', it really does stand comparison with the best that secular record companies can offer! If only there were more recordings of this quality.
