I have at least two friends who consider Mr Ward the greatest pop-rock vocalist in the entire world (Christendom had developed a new confidence about its musical heroes). I too am an admirer of Matthew's formidable vocal chops yet for me the 2nd Chapter Of Acts singer suffers from the same problem as guitar maestro Phil Keaggy, an inability to come up with enough outstanding material meaning technically excellent but dull albums. 'Point Of View' has plenty of crunching power chords, tricky synth bits and on the praise and worship closer "I Will Bless The Lord" a nice line in acappella harmonies. But despite all their strident exhortations to resist "Little white lies/living in compromise" and finding "an oasis that springs from the ground" I remained unmoved.
