Illinois-based CCM hitmaker Matthew West's latest release has been inspired by hearing the life stories of some of his fans and this interactive and responsive approach - coupled with West's knack for writing really great music - makes for a truly captivating album of poignant and uplifting songs that tell of God's work in the lives of believers. The songs in question obviously benefit from West's perfect American pop voice as well as the sizeable production skills of, amongst others, David Garcia with the memorable title track setting the scene for an album of generally punchy upbeat numbers that never fail to make an impression musically - whether it's the fast-talking stomper "Amen" or more considered numbers like the cautionary "The Beautiful Things We Miss". The success of this release lies in the fact that each song has its foundations in real life situations and the half-rapped "Power Love Sound Mind" showcases West's innate ability to offer up hope in Jesus for those facing genuine hardships without ever sounding condescending. Elsewhere, the importance of good parenting is covered in "Becoming Me" (featuring a cameo from daughter Lulu) whilst the Steven Curtis Chapman co-write "The Sound Of A Life Changing" sees West in autobiographical mode as he tells about the difference Jesus has made to his life. Song titles such as "Dream Again" and "Never Ever Give Up" sum up the overall theme of this hugely relevant, realistic and life-affirming release.
