Although both bands featured on this release could be described as exponents of doom metal, this is a collection of variety and contrast. Opening with five tracks from the British My Silent Wake, we are treated to a well produced guitar intro that has a medieval folk feel about it. The tracks develop with some very open textured music that highlights influences of Led Zeppelin before moving into the more driving and lamenting riffs that are a hallmark of MSW. There are experimental, progressive tracks included such as "NDE Part 2" with its refreshing flute and guitar trade off that brings back memories of Jethro Tull. Switzerland's Pylon, on the other hand, supply a more traditional set of doom tracks to the recording, including a cover of Candlemass' "Droid". Equally well produced, this outfit offer churning, twisting riffs, all highlighted by some excellent haunting vocals, none better than on the slow and heavy "Falling Into The Sun". Despite the huge musical differences on offer, this project does sit well as a whole. Each compliments the other rather than detracting. The sombre mood painted by both bands is ambient yet crushing and will be enjoyed by fans of a traditional metal sound.
