Classic vintage N O jazz from a seven man band mainly consisting of black veterans maintaining the old ways. Alongside exemplary versions of jazz standards, the gents tear into wall shaking versions of "Amen", and a thumping 7:06 rendition of "Over In The Gloryland". The lovely old song "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" is beautifully sung and played by piano maestro James Miller and banjo ace Narvin Kimball contributes a superb treatment of "Memories". Armed with this and the wonderful George Lewis 'Jazz At Vespers' album you've line up for yourself the cream of authentic gospel jazz. Don't settle for pale imitations.
