Not to be confused with the American hip-hop crew Royal Ruckus. It irritates me when British rappers put on fake American accents when they are rapping. Now here's a first! A duo from New Zealand who want to sound like they come from the Bronx! Oh dear! The result is that this is a workmanlike album that has all the right elements but doesn't gel into anything that touches me. It's hip-hop by numbers which makes the right sort of noises but leaves me cold. The overall sound is a bit dated sounding like chart hip-hop circa 1998 and haven't we got past all the "I'm a demon slayer" posturing in Christian hip-hop? Clearly not! Fake accents make me wonder what else is fake here? The message? Let's hope not.

hmmm.. an interesting review with some very interesting assumptions. Firstly, this is their debut album which was released in 2001 and yes, was very much influenced by the hip hop style of the late 90's, so should be viewed in that context. The newest album, I Believe, has come a long way in the depth of lyrical content and producing. Secondly, rapping with an NZ-accent just sounds cras (& British rapping is not much better). But to question the integrity of their message? That's taking it a bit too far.. maybe Mr Rimmer could grace his presence at a Rapture Ruckus concert and see the impact of the message & music on the lives of young people.

I think that it is shocking that someone can say this about rapture ruckus. How can he be accused of being fake?! I have met him and he is anything but. As for this album, I haven't actually listened to it, but I do have his more recent one, "I Believe" and it is awesome! I would recommend it to anyone who has a good lyrical sense and likes hip-hop.
