Simon's voice has long been one of the most affecting on the UK Christian music scene. Now the addition of high octane rock guitars and a worship focus bring Simon to the fore as a premier artist. The man we have to thank for transforming Simon from a good though occasionally anonymous singer a little too rooted in Cliff Richard stylings into a powerful purveyor of rock orientated praise music is producer Paul Burton. Also a huge help are the self-written songs which range from tender explorations of the Father heart of God to roaring anthems with enough guts and passion to take a football stadium of praisers into orbit. Far from being a disengaged selection of songs by a studio seasoned veteran this turns out to be one of the freshest and brightest albums of the year. Thoroughly recommended.

It amazes me how Christian music can sound so fresh and modern. I´ve always loved gospel music but since I bought all of Simon´s CD´s there´s hardly anything that can compare! You wouldn´t even think "Closer" is a worship album. I couldn´t even decide whether I prefer the ballads like "Father we love you" or "Deeper in love with you" or the catchy tunes like "All this world has to offer" or "Always". Each and every song is a masterpiece of its own that either has a beautiful melody that stays an earworm for days and days or has enough power to be a chart topper nowadays. If I could make the charts! Ha! All of Simon´s songs are so easy to sing along with and I rarely say that I like every song on an album. But in this case I have to admit I do. My absolute favourite on "Closer" is "Can´t deny", so hard to get it out of one´s head anymore. On top of it all Simon´s voice is one of the most beautiful ones I´ve ever heard. It´s a privilege listening to his music! I´d highly recommend this album to everyone, Christian or Non-Christian!
