Not long ago, Leeds-based Simon was singing back ups for Marilyn Baker, then he contributed the best vocal performances on Alliance's 'World Of Worship' album. Now see what he's really made of with his debut album! Bathed in an excellent adult contemporary pop sound by experienced producer Christopher Norton, Simon's touching songs shine both lyrically and musically. To pay a compliment, his voice reminds me of Cliff but this is no bad thing! Two ballads are outstanding, "All You Have Done For Me" with its flowing sax and worshipful lyrics reflecting the beautiful grace of God are continued in the title track which always melts me when I listen. But it's not just the ballads that are excellent, the pop rockers "You Hold The Key" and "Asking You" stride along passionately and then to surprise the listener, there's Synergy's Tim Riches mixing "Your Love" to take Simon into sanctified dance territory. Infectious songwriting, a strong voice and first class production values, this debut proves that Simon has a lot going for him. It's crying out for a distribution deal to reach the wider audience it deserves. But don't wait until then to get hold of a copy!
