Further proof that the British church has a lot more to offer worshippers than the Spring Harvest-hyped works of Kendrick, Bowater et al. Springwood Church is a bursting-at-the-seams body of believers in Cardiff and judging from this joyfully effervescent album is a breeding ground for an exciting new wave of contemporary praise music. Tracks are live with over-dubs only on lead vocals and instrumental solos; what strikes one is how freshly contemporary it all sounds with no hint of the anaemic middle of the road production values which clog so many worship releases. And the songs, all originals, sparkle with freshness. My favourites so far are the haunting ballad "All That I Am" with a lovely lead vocal by its composer Ann O'Hare, the funky "Up Side Down" (rather spoilt though by some ragged brass) and the joyful mid tempo opener "One Body One Spirit" composed and sung by Andrew Price. You owe it to the worship in your church to send off for this album.
