IN THE MAINSTREAM

The boozey, swaggering, pub-blues sound of Paul Jones, Dave Kelly, Tom McGuinness and friends may not be the purist's idea of the best blues. But these performances recorded live in the early months of 2000 capture all the gutsy thrust of the band with Dave Kelly's searing slide and Paul Jones' surprisingly good mouth harp among the standouts. Personally I prefer the original versions of the songs (you can't be the originals of "I'm Your King Bee", "Lonely Avenue", etc) but it's intriguing to hear believer Paul in full flow on "Jesus On The Mainline".
