The Brown Band from, I believe, San Antonio, specialise in wistful melancholia and are the musical persona of one Justin Graves. The songs on this 12 song set go back as far as 1993 (“Owl Song” based on a sighting of a poster that said “Wise men still seek Jesus”) and occasionally take in a full band, like on the wistfully moody “Love Someone”, and other times feature Justin Graves and his trusty acoustic. On the whole, the effect is moving while his lyrics explore searching for and finding God and the great romance in Justin’s life, one Michelle. Another intelligent singer/songwriter connoisseurs will want to search out.
