The International Staff Songsters are, of course, the vocal ensemble offshoot of the Salvation Army's most renowned band, based at the UK Territorial Headquarters in London and made up of members from surrounding counties. This album was recorded in April 2010 and features a mixture of songs and hymns. The opener, "Jesus Loves Me" sets the scene, with gentle piano, stirring choir arrangements and a beautiful solo performance from Kerry Sampson. "The Awakeners" with its marching drums and dramatic piano sets a faster pace alongside "Let All Things Praise" (based on Psalm 150), but generally the album follows a gentler approach with the piano being the main instrument of choice. There is no shortage of highlights here, the acapella "It is Well With My Soul "and "There Will Be God" featuring soloist Kevin Fenton-Ferring, are amongst them. A beautiful collection.
