Not always easy when reviewing black gospel choirs to find anything distinctive to comment on, the format being a more than well-trodden path these days. Usually, the only resource is to indicate whether the outfit under the spotlight perform it well or not. These do. Usual balance of aggressive songs and gently ballads, all with very simple lyrics, which I've said before cries out for someone in the genre to do some innovative writing, without damaging the fundamental concept. Do you know that old standard "Jesus Never Fails"? Hardly recognisable here, with its crashing, stabbing rhythms and soul-soaked Derrick Home lead vocal. On the whole the album's a good example of this exciting, timeless style of music.
