It's always quite remarkable that a band suddenly appears out of nowhere to record a tape. For every band playing locally in any area there are the nightmares of whether the 'putting a tape together' experience is going to end in a scathing Cross Rhythms review. Here we have one of the latest bands to emerge from the scene in Leeds and the West Riding of Yorkshire - Farsley and Pudsey to be exact. Eight tracks are on offer here and I am still at a loss over where to categorise it for you. It seems as though they've not quite decided on a specific style as yet so they're trying out a few different ideas. "Light At The End Of The Tunnel" could have been written ten, 20 perhaps even 30 years ago and is too cliched a lyric to survive in the band's set for long, but "Apart So Long" offers one of the moments to be savoured (even though the vocal performance needs improvement - do a few more takes next time guys). The piano playing is one of the highlights of the track. "I Need Love" was for me their best overall number, where you feel that the band really starts getting it together - and is probably the direction for the future, bringing in harmony to an MOR/pop number which would fit well on radio with better production. Whilst this is not the best local tape I've ever heard there's enough here to suggest that they could develop into another useful band on the Northern circuit.
