It has been a couple of years since Canada's TFK released the highly regarded 'Welcome To The Masquerade'. This, their first ever live album, relies significantly on that release for material, providing six of the 13 tracks. In the style of a retrospective however, it also includes classics from each of their previous outings such as "Set It Off", "Move" and their signature track "Rawkfist". All add to make this a showcase for a band that could now be classed as veterans of Christian rock. The most impressive element of this package is the quality of the sound and mixing. So many live packages sacrifice the tight feel of a studio album, but Trevor McNevan is spot on with his vocals and his band provide accomplished backing, the live setting adding a gritty edge to the pop influenced rock tracks. Crowd participation is mixed well and does not affect or overshadow the music. At times you forget you are even listening to a live show. The accompanying DVD has no extras, but provides an energetic, crisp experience of a TFK performance which only enhances the package. Many live albums can disappoint and are strictly for fans only, but this example is an exception to the rule. For both the diehard fan and newcomer alike, 'Live At The Masquerade' provides a vivid impression of what these "old hands" of stadium rock have to offer.
