True Redemption is a six-piece gospel team from Florida, with a desire to make known, in musical form, the power of the Father's love. 'Back Home' is their debut album and contains 10 songs (one repeated as an "Encore", another as a "Remix") written through experiences of "hope, loss, redemption and love". All tunes were composed by Eddie Fray, who also ably produced the disc. Many of the songs are unhurried pieces of inspirational balladry while others have a more upbeat, funky ambience. The catchy "Trouble" has a pop/gospel sound with something of a retro-'70s type Drifters feel. In each scenario, the lead vocals of Kenneth Stuart (who also acts as drummer) are truly impressive, while the backing vocals from other band members add warmth and body to each song. One or two of the most soulful tracks, such as "It's Gonna Be Alright", carry very much of an Al Green feel and are every bit as endearing. This is an accessible and likeable collection, bringing pleasure to the ear and encouragement to the spirit.
