If Christian music is a niche market then this release is a further demonstration that Elevation Records/Memralife Group have found a niche within a niche. For in case you didn't know, Elevation have for years now been the leaders, in the British church at least, in children's Christian music releasing many albums by the likes of Doug Horley, BIG Ministries, Spring Harvest, Trevor Ranger and others. Now this compilation has come along offering "20 exciting worship songs for kids." On the novelty side there's "I Can Wriggle" by Judy MacKenzie Dunn - a lady who once made a major contribution in the development of UK Christian music but these days is happy to turn out ditties for the kiddywinkers ("I can wriggle like a worm. I am wonderfully made. And I thank you God"). Some easy Biblical lessons are provided in Doug Horley's "Hi-5" - from the story David and Goliath to the miracle of the loaves and fishes. The opening track, "Brand New Day" from BIG Ministries (who are well represented on the album), typifies the upbeat mood that pervades the collection. This CD is also blessed by some more serious and reflective songs that should appeal to adults and to older children, stretching them beyond the simple stuff. I particularly liked the beautiful melody and message of blessing in "May The Grace" by Trevor Ranger, while Pete James' "Talk To Jesus" exudes sincerity - "No one loves you like he loves you/You are safe within the Saviour's love" - a message that everyone needs to hear.
