An excellent new American CCM unit who steer close enough to R&B to be a blue-eyed soul gospel team on some tracks though others have the axe riffs and raunch of a sassy fusion rock unit. The lead singer Mike Conner has a voice which oozes attitude, the bass and drums are seriously in the pocket and the songs have hooks a plenty. Whether or not a sound which so deliberately straddles white (rock) and black (R&B) musical conventions will find a market here, let alone the fact that Versus are ANOTHER American band unknown in Europe does not stop this reviewer from continually turning to this turbulently rhythmic set.
