After hearing some of the Youth Alive stuff from the wonderful David Evans, I imagined that all of the Youth Alive releases would be infused with the same passion and high standard of music. Hearing this effort from Youth Alive Newcastle brings me down to earth with a bump. It isn't terrible, just plods along a bit too much in a predictable fashion. "Come Alive" and "We Declare The Power" explode with some rock'n'roll riffs that don't really convince me. It's all a bit too '80s. The songs are all in praise and worship of God, the production sound is professional and the vocal/musical performances are all executed effectively but overall this ends up being good rather than exceptional because there is a lack of originality. Shame really because there are a couple of bright moments here. The ballads "We Come And Bow" and "How I Love Jesus" are great worship songs and the instrumental "Light Up The Sky" has some excellent guitar work. But the net result makes this a good, steady contemporary worship album rather than something new and fresh.
