Genesis 12: 1-9

There's not much to tell of Abraham at this moment in the Bible but what there is in these first 9 verses, shows the making of a great man of God.

God speaks to Abram (as he known at this stage) and calls him to leave his home, his family and the land where he is living for an unknown place. A place which God describes as "the land I will show you". This must have been a real struggle for Abram.

I remember moving churches when I was about 10 years old. My family, along with about 15 other people, were going to start a new church in a different area, which I didn't really understand or see the point of. Although Abram was obviously older than I was, I found it so hard to leave my friends, Sunday school and comfort that I knew behind me. I didn't want to move, as I was quite happy where I was, yet I didn't see or realise how God was going to work in my life when I had left.

Undoubtedly Abram probably had his doubts about moving away but did he complain? No, he trusted God and had faith in God's vision for his life. Sometimes, God doesn't give a reason for His decisions. He doesn't always give the answers to all our questions when they suit us best. The who's, what's, when's, where's and why's have to wait and we are simply required to act on His word.

When God tells you to do something, take a risk, a step of faith, live for Him. The reward is always well worth it.
