"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2: 10

Have you ever realised you are just the right person for the task in front of you? No? Well get ready to. The Bible quiet clearly says God has created you uniquely to be just the right person for a particular situation at the right time. Let me share my story with you.

18 months ago I was at Glastonbury Festival. I had just dropped my girlfriend back at the tents so I could go off, meet people, and party till dawn. While I was dancing, this pretty young girl came over and started to dance with me. I was flattered! It's nice to know an old man can still cut it, but I knew I should probably find a way to get out of the tempting situation. When another guy cut in, I was relieved. Later on, the girl reappeared and asked me to look after her stuff for her as she needed the loo. I became concerned when she didn't come back right away, the sun was starting to come up, and being an old man I was started to flag. Forty five minutes later she returned with a shady looking guy and I had a sense that something was not right. When she said she was going for a walk with him, something inside was shouting for me to say something. I thought about it, but then concluded that it was really none of my business. I didn't want to be seen as anti the "spirit of Glastonbury" or come across like a preachy Christian so I agreed to continue looking after her things. Twenty minutes later she turned up, clearly sober, without the guy, obviously shaken, with scratch marks down her back. In a confused rush she explained that the guy had attacked her, and thankfully her friends and the onsite security intervened before she was raped. I was overwhelmed with the love of God for the girl, and I apologised for not saying something before she went off. At that point I was open about the fact that I was a Christian. When I offered to pray for her she started to cry and admit that she too was a Christian but was along way from God. All I could do was give her a hug, say a prayer for her, and leave her to her friends, knowing that God had put me in a position where I could have protected one of his little ones who was in danger. I felt sick to the pit of my stomach. I was the perfect person for that situation, but instead of viewing the girl with respect and seeing her a young girl who needed to be looked after, I let my flesh take over, and she became a temptation to be avoided. Keeping with the spirit of the festival had become more important than being tuned into the Holy Spirit when He was speaking to me.

What about you? What specific works has God called you to? Can't think of any? Who else is going to be a witness to your group of friends? Who else is going to give your friend godly advice when she is upset because her boyfriends putting the pressure on. Who else is going to stick up for the person who is a bullied in your classroom or at your work place? Who else is going to make sure that Jesus is at the centre of your marriage or relationship?

God has not just called your pastor, your youth leader, or your super spiritual friends to do specific good works, he's chosen you! It's why you were created! Your personality, gifting, knowledge, interests, friends, financial status all add up and allow you to make a unique contribution that no one else could make. You are Gods perfect solution to some problems. Realise this, and decide if you are going to step up to the challenge. Being a part of God's plan can be hard work at times, but is exciting and fulfilling. Missing out on God's good works he has for you can result in the way I felt that night at Glastonbury, and I never want you to feel like that.  CR
