OVER 900 people attended the BBC Midlands Radio Gospel Awards 1993, the first to be held in the Midlands. Over 140 entries were listened to by a committee of radio presenters, Church personnel and musicians, who eventually chose the nine winners for the various categories. These were Female Vocalist: Priscilla Jones; Male Vocalist: Godfrey Gale; Choirs/Groups: Final Note; Songwriter: Freddie Kofi; Instrumentalist: Donald Brown; Acappella: Final Note and Rap: Donald Brown. The climax of the evening was an appearance by American gospel star Vickie Winans.
