Another of those rather notorious cheap and cheerful albums where British producer Chris Norton assemblies a collection of British session singers (completely uncredited here) to run through worship songs from the '70s and '80s (the newest track is Kendrick's "Say It Loud"). As the likes of "He Is Exalted", "Jesus We Celebrate" and "Be Still" drifted by, I was transported back to youth events at which this stuff was on the cutting edge of contemporary worship. Whilst the truth is that post-Redman, Smith et al times have changed, this CD was a bit of a wake-up call for me; is it worth dusting off some of these tracks and re-introducing them to our churches? Possibly, although maybe with a bit more, erm, "oomph" than on this collection - Sonicflood, it ain't. Musically, my mum would love the way this sounds - need I say more? (Sorry, Mum!) It's not the worst of its ilk, but musically there's little to excite despite the classic songs.
