This team were another of the great black quartets from Jefferson County, Alabama that recorded in the pre-war era alongside such acts as the better known Blue Jays and the Golden Leafs. They first recorded in late 1928 when Brunswick Records made a field trip to Birmingham, Alabama and over the next two years recorded a grand total of 24 tracks, all of which are lovingly compiled here. In Dave Brown the Sunset Four had an emotional, powerful lead and the group's rich harmony ensure that tracks like "In The Valley Of Peace", "I'm Climbing Up Zion Hill" and "You're Going To Need That Pure Religion" all transcend the rather primitive recording sound. The only slightly duff track is "Ham And Eggs", a corny folk song, but overall this team of acapella harmonisers left behind an impressive recorded legacy.
