This CD begins with a rush of vibrant, exciting sound presented by the Boscombe Band, led by bandmaster Howard J Richardson playing "Star Lake 70". Then the music of this band slips gracefully into the haunting trombone solo "Sarah" written by Bruce Broughton and delightfully played by Brett Baker. The skilled musicianship of the Boscombe Band permits their music to move towards its fulfilment, then to challenge our emotions with an exciting presentation of the familiar "Teach Me To Dance" though this arrangement for brass band is titled "Dance Before The Lord". Next, Foden's Richardson Band, conducted by Howard J Evans take the stage and offer a fresh understanding of Eric Ball's timeless "Star Lake" march to which, down the years, countless SA bandsmen have marched the streets of the world. The final group of tracks brings both bands together closing with the haunting melody to the words of Moses, "The Lord Bless You And Keep You." There is much here for you to enjoy and the musical skill on display by both bands is consistently accomplished.

Lieut-Colonel Ray Steadman-Allen has for many, many years used his creative gifts through musical ministry within The Salvation Army. The opportunity to premiere a brand new work, and premiere a first complete performance of another work from his hand, during his 85th year, demanded a special and unique occasion.
That came about with the partnership of the Boscombe Band of The Salvation Army and Foden's Richardson Band, along with special guest soloist Brett Baker, in the magnificent Boscombe Salvation Army Citadel, Bournemouth in February 2008.
