Although they have been together since 1989 this is Cana's first foray into the recording studio. Their mission statement in recording this album was: 1, To write and record original music (nine out of the 12 tracks are their own compositions); 2. To encompass strong Christian lyrics and themes straight from the Bible; 3. To produce quality material that can be used in a variety of church settings; 4. To produce material that can easily be adapted to individual artists, folk groups or choirs; 5. To write songs such that whether the arrangements are simple or complex they should still deliver a powerful message. Well, that's the intention. How well have they fared? For a first effort, this is really quite good. The words lo all the songs are very Bible-based and contain a clear and strong Christian message while musically there can also be no doubt that the band have again met their goal in writing songs which I could easily imagine being sung by virtually any church congregation, traditional or modern. I doubt that this album will have much appeal to those with highly contemporary tastes since it is a very folksy and in a sense quite traditional. But for those looking for well-performed biblical songs, this could be for you.
