A worship album with a difference! For starters, it doesn't sound like a worship album. Hallelujah! And secondly, it features none other than Chris Lizotte, a hot Cross Rhythms favourite! Chris is joined by Robee Nero, a fellow Californian worship leader. The 10 songs are split equally between them (sounds like a good deal to me). Chris's powerful voice blasts through loud and clear, leading singers and musicians with passion. What stands out is Chris's huge songwriting skills, with words that are a cut above a lot of worship fodder we're used to. "I Love Your Ways" is a gentle, raspy prayer of dedication to God, while "How Great Are Thy Works" is an uplifting celebration of God's love for us. It all happens with an appealing rawness and intimacy that Chris excels at. Robee Nero takes things a stage further with a more "churchy", less acoustic feel. It's slicker and not as spontaneous as Chris's stint, but makes an unexpected contrast. "So Good" introduces the rich tones of a lilting sax alongside Robee's soul voice. Plenty of guitar stabs and wobbly keyboard on "He Shall Reign" give everything a funky gospel flavour. It's amazing how two different sounding worship leaders have been brought together on one album - but it works.
