Rather deceptively sub-titled 'Live In Detroit', US pastor and renowned gospel artist Donnie McClurkin's latest release is a mixture of studio cuts and live material mostly written, performed and produced by the man himself. Recorded at Detroit's Straight Gate International Church, the live tracks burn with the passion and energy that is characteristic of many contemporary gospel releases and McClurkin is evidently in his element belting out the likes of the stomping "The Great I Am" or involving the crowd in the reprise of "You Are My God And King". Elsewhere, his considerable vocal power is displayed in the worshipful "Hallelujah Song" and tracks like "Trusting In You" and "Choose To Be Dancing" showcase McClurkin's prowess as a studio artist - not least thanks to a delightfully tight backing band. Guest artists such as CeCe Winans, Mary Mary and Yolanda Adams feature in the soulful "When You Love" to crown what is a varied and accomplished release.
