East To West are a new American duo, Jay DeMarcus and Neal Coomer, who offer catchy, radio-friendly pop gospel. Strengths are a fairly distinctive lead voice with a touch of the Michael Jackson in his breathless delivery; one or two catchy hooks (I liked the Brian White penned opener "Welcome To The Next Level") and a seamless, keyboards-based production from Don Koch. Weakness is that there are too many pretty but hardly striking ballads while few chances are taken with the arrangements. The duo do a coyer of Mr.Mister's 80s hit "Kyrie" but it doesn't compare to the original. Worth a listen if you like classy pop-gospel but to my ears, it hardly leaps out from the crowd.
