The best yet from the best gospel act on this side of the Atlantic. Emmaus is not only a band but also an ecumenical Christian community with school outreach teams and three other very funky bands. Their leader, Ronan Jonston, has quite a history in the performing arts with several years as a presenter of RTE and a lot of soundtrack and incidental music to his name including some recent stuff for Zig And Zag on MTV. The album opens with the title track sounding like a sanctified version of The Commitments followed by a variety of styles with "The Way, The Truth, The Life" proclaiming the names of God in no uncertain terms (what Ronan describes as up-your-nose evangelism). "Precious Love" is an achingly beautiful example of the quieter side of Emmaus. You'd have a hard job finding anything this good in the charts. But don't waste time reading this. Go out and buy it, now.
