When at an Alliance Music sales conference I first heard "State Of Waiting" from this set I thought this album was going to be truly groundbreaking. Here was a brilliant new worship song, penned by Kindle's Dan Boreham and Simon Parkin and sung with Nicola (the lass from Shine soon to be launched as a solo). With a simple piano accompaniment it definitely produced goose bumps. And when I heard a couple of the other tracks where Dan Boreham and producer Andy Harsant's guitars giving a pop rock sound with a bit of bite I realised Mr Harsant had put in a lot more production work than we often get on those production-line praise albums that have flooded the UK market. Unfortunately, when I got to play the album in its entirity, the impact was less than I expected. Maybe there are simply too many over-familiar songs. After all, there's only so many versions of Paul Baloche's "Open The Eyes Of My Heart" or Matt Redman's "Holy Moment" that we need. Or maybe it's just that Simon Goodall and Esther Alexander have simply recorded too many studio worship albums to carry much impact with their admitedly competent vocals. I wish Alliance Music well with their new worship series. But in such a crowded marketplace they'll still need more consistant albums than this one to stand out from the crowd.
