Four of the US gospel scene's finest singers have pooled their resources in this powerhouse of a release that proves that occasionally the sum is more than the parts. United Tenors consists of Dave Hollister, Eric Roberson and Brian Courtney Wilson together with the legendary Fred Hammond and, whilst each have been successful in their own right, it's clear from the funk-infested opener "Unshakeable" that their collaboration is an inspired idea. In what is a delightfully varied album, the foursome mix their own brand of funk and gospel to great effect with the likes of "Love You Like That" and "Come On Let's Pray" being a tour de force of all that makes modern gospel music so captivating whilst proceedings are taken down a notch with some expert God-focussed R&B balladry in the worshipful "I Need You", "I'm In The Midst" and "Here In Our Praise" - all of which showcase the group's collective vocal power as well as Hammond's innate production skills. As evidenced in some light-hearted studio banter in between tracks and the sheer quality of output, it's clear that Hammond and friends are in their element and have hit upon a format that certainly merits a follow up album at the very least.
