Vertical Records are the contemporary wing of Integrity Music and this is the third release on the label and yet again it's a scorcher. Following on the heels of excellent albums from Darrell Evans and Lincoln Brewster, here's a new name for you! Jami Smith has been recording independent albums and working as a worship leader for six years now, but this is her first album to gain an international release. Vocally this verges on gutsy girlie rock and Jami's voice is a cross between Melissa Etheridge and Sue Rinaldi. Lyrically though, this veers from intensely passionate ballads ("Needy", "Mercy Again") to outstanding anthemic inspiring praise songs ("Freedom Calls","Worship You") and Jami creates music that makes you excited to worship God, I love this album! Fave tracks include the stripped down poppy rhythm of "Home" with Jami's gravelly vocal, and the understated uplifting "Declare" with its insistent drum and bass lines pushing the song forward. "Waterfalls" is another vulnerable moving moment crying out to God to fill the deepest need of our hearts. Songs that celebrate freedom explore intimacy with God and stir you into praise - not much else that you could want in a worship album. On target and well worth exploring.
