'Father's House' follows Jamie's well-received 2011 debut 'When East Meets West', and sees the Henley-on-Thames songsmith teaming again with Polish multi-instrumentalist and producer Gerard Niemczyk for a three-song EP. The title track "uses the imagery of an open plain, a garden and finally a palace to describe an ever-deepening journey into God's presence. It is inspired by the Scriptures "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise" and Jesus' words "In my father's house there are many rooms..." "Change" deals with the universal human experience of the passage of time and how often we wish we could "pause" a moment to enjoy it for longer, or even "rewind" and try again sometimes! My favourite is the final track, the anthemic "A Time Like This", inspired by the book of Esther to encourage us all: "Don't wait a whole lifetime/You were born for a time like this." Intriguingly, Jamie sometimes reminds me of alternative pop outfit The Lightning Seeds, with his thoughtful tunes and engaging production. Great stuff!
