I remember an enjoyable Larson tape of eight or so years ago and wondering at that time if his brand of gentle acoustic folk was acceptable to enough people to make further encounters feasible. Well, here's 17 tracks' worth of Jeff's cerebral, insightful songs, still carved out with rich acoustic finesse and the utmost attention to detail. The music falls in the approximate territory of the lighter, more wistful side of Larry Norman and Mark Heard, in particular the vocal style suggests much careful listening to the former's unique phrasing and vocal colouring. Should be enough recommendation for most listeners of taste and discernment. The songs which are not particularly "gospel" orientated will bear repeated playings and reward the careful listener. Larson's fine instrumental skills are topped up by a few extra touches here and there, and the entire project is artistic, profound and satisfying.
