Pop quiz...how many Jeremy Camp songs can you name that have made it to number one in the charts? Realising that the obvious chart in question is the US Billboard Christian Songs chart, the answer is six, so more than Chris Tomlin and Third Day. However, his Wikipedia entry puts it at 17 which must be from a variety of charts although this album provides us with 15 tracks and a bonus. "The Way" also made it to number one in 2011, but is missing from this 2012 compilation. Musically, this is manly, radio-friendly rock, with punchy guitar riffs, but it lacks the vibrancy and power of comparable artists such as Hillsong United, so there must be a reason why Jeremy has seen so much success. If you think of Hillsong United as Pentecostals, where the power and the medium are critical, Jeremy is by contrast an Evangelical where the power of the Word is key. A lot of the lyrics are really in your face Cross centred, and full of humility, grace and fundamental truths. This album is like a collection of sermons by the Mars Hill Pastor Mark Driscoll. It doesn't hold back and doesn't need to apologise.
