Jerome used to sing with a well known US band (which one escapes me for the moment!) and this, his second solo album shows that the potential of his first was no flash-in-the-pan. Here's a guy with a nice husky rock voice, whose self-composed songs are often hauntingly introspective rather than in-your-face raunchy. Years back they would have called this style 'California soft rock' but whatever the current pigeon hole its liquid lilt rests easily on the ear with jangling guitars and country-tinged harmonies bringing the strong melodic hooks. My favourites are the ode to the "Family Man" opener and the compelling song cameo about an encounter with a vagrant on the street, "The Wounded". It'll take ten plays to get through to you but if you're adventurous (and flush) enough to search this ignored album' out you'll be rewarded.

Jerome and Tom Grose played together in the early 1980's in what was then called the Jerome Olds Band. Ricky Pierce was on guitar. Scott Meeder was on drums. Clark ... was on bass I believe. They mainly played at a club called Chaps on Roswell Road a few hundred yards outside 285. Those were amazing times. The band absolutley cooked and Chaps was the place to be. I still to this day dont think there was a better band in the world than the Jerome Olds Band of that time. I still have a number of tapes I made at Chaps back then. When I start to wonder if they were in fact the greatest band of all time, I just pull out the tapes and listen and remember. The magic of Jerome and Tom together and the sterling play of the rest of the band was unsurpassed. Tom and Jerome can still be found but I often wonder whatever happened to Ricky Pierce and his searing guitar. Anyone know? Bill

Jerome came on the Christian mainstream music market back in the early 80's with the Sweet Comfort Band. You can find his cds on Ebay. His three sons are the majority of a hot new rock band called Family Force Five. Hope this was a little help.

I remember Jerome singing a Christmas song " This Christmas" I believe is the title back in the 80's. Others have recorded the song including Jamie Fox the TV and Movie Star who got his start on " In Living Color". Would love to get that song he did it best!
Any ideas on how to find it?

Hi Danny.

I have heard many different versions of the song "This Chrismas" done by many different artists including the original by Donny Hathaway.

Although Donny's version is tough to top, I agree with you. I too think Jerome's original version of the song is the best. Maybe it is because it was his version that I heard first.

In 1983 the Atlanta radio station 94-Q put out a Christmas album which included Jerome's version of "This Christmas". The name of the album was "A 94-Q / WQXI Christmas".

A few years ago I called Jerome (I just looked up his number in the phone book) and asked him if the song was available anywhere on CD. He said he had just recorded a new version of the song, but I have not found it on CD.

I hope this helps.

Eddie
