John is, of course, one of the pioneers of what devotees would call classically orientated meditative music and cynics would refer to as Christian bookshop browser's muzak. The difficult thing about this particular project, where guitarist John picks his way deftly through the hymnal to do versions of "0 Sacred Head", "Just As I Am", "Lead Us Heavenly Father Lead us", etc, is that we've had so many similar sounding instrumental albums of this kind down the years, that even the exemplary playing and the addition of Simeon Wood's flute and Graham Hepburn's piano fails to lift it above mere competence.
