Reviewed by Trevor Kirk The work of John Gerighty as one of the most talented classical guitarists on the UK Christian music scene is well known; his partnership with flautist Simeon Wood has produced several excellent albums, and John's latest solo project carries on that trend. I reckon that the way to avoid terminal cheesiness in an instrumental album is to avoid recycling well known material as "worship without words", and create some original stuff; obviously John's been listening, as of the 11 tracks here, nine are Gerighty originals and two are arrangements, one of which, "Hear Me Lord", is a haunting reworking of an old Irish dance melody, featuring the violin of John's wife Nellie, and the other, "Adagio", is a classical guitar piece by Fernando Sor. However, the album is not all instrumental, there are three songs, one of which features Geraldine Latty, and I'm not sure whether including them was such a good idea, because for me they clash with the overall feel of the album. Nevertheless, leaving apart my quibbles on that score, there's plenty of good things for your listening pleasure here.
