Junior Tucker is of course a mainstream reggae artist who once gave his powerful Christian testimony to Cross Rhythms. Today he's based in Clewiston, Florida, where he's worship leader at the New Harvest Church, and his record label Island Worship Music alludes to his ethnic roots in Trenchtown. This CD is good value, 14 tracks, over 68 minutes running time, all but three tracks are his own work, and it's full of good reggae praise. The three tracks he didn't write are a reworking of Darrel Evans' popular worship song "Trading My Sorrows", which works well, Reuben Morgan's "My Redeemer Lives" (Hillsongs reggae anyone?), which also bounces along in fine style, and the Vineyard UK classic by Marie Barnett, "Breathe", for which I didn't care: perhaps I'm too spoilt by Kathryn Scott's definitive version to even consider any others. But no matter. If you're a fan of Junior's warmly soulful vocals you can buy this with confidence. And it sounds much more convincing than some of those cheap sounding reggae worship compilations we've been getting recently.
