'Noting Compares' is, I believe, the Exeter-based singer/songwriter's fourth album. I flicked through the tracks on this album fairly quickly. "O Jesus I Have Promised" is a timeless classic that others have re-worked, and Martyn's attempts are admirable. However, sadly for most of the album, whilst the songs are excellent Martyn struggles with his vocal range, which is perhaps more noticeable on a recording than a live performance. One nice touch with this album is its interactive CD function, enabling the listener to view a photo gallery, a music video and impressively, to download song words and chords from the tracks on the album - an excellent addition. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is an unnamed and unlisted song, included as a bonus track, "It's Your Blood"" which, to be honest, lets the CD down. Overall then, another album where clearly a lot of time has been invested, but more work still needs to be done.

Just had to reply.... Martyn deserves better than this... he has worked incredibly hard on this album, and is achieving good sales. He has a lot of talent, and wants his music to be heard, and if it helps folk in their "journey" then, who are we to knock that?Give the lad a break...

I hate to repeat other's comments, but I have to say how poor a review this is. There is no description of the sound of the album apart from a criticism of Martyn's voice, and if the songs are excellent (as Ross Dilnot points out), surely his disliking of the vocals is a small issue? Worship albums are primarily showcases of songs for the Church, aren't they?

As one of those who helped on this project, I too must take issue with the poor review which I feel is unfair to the hours of sacrifice, prayer, finance and hard work by so many to make this album happen, especially Martyn. This may not be an album that some people enjoy, but props must go to any artist like Martyn prepared to rep Christ publicly. Many varied artists came together to make this a creative, worshipful and fairly unique album.

"I flicked through the tracks on this album fairly quickly." How can this be a fair review then???

I thoroughly enjoy this album, Martyn's heart can be seen through these songs, and I can draw closer to God in worship with this album as a great tool for it - Well done Martyn!
