There's a certain kind of jazz tinged funk which is too clever by half, so abounding in tricky time sequences and unexpected key changes that top line melody becomes a hopeful meander over the jerky rhythm section. The first two songs are classic examples of this irritating phenomenon and even the ballads are produced to stop-start jerkiness. On the sleeve Michael is surrounded by a crowd who presumably participate on the album too though who they are and what they do isn't indicated on the sleeve. Michael's voice, like the harmonising sisters, who share leads is good. But this is still an album in desperate need of good songs and disciplined production.
