25 more acappella sides from the group of male harmonizers from Kinston, North Carolina. Again it's timeless stuff for lovers of raw and bluesy folk art and the soulful heat they kick up on a song like "Rock My Soul (In The Bosom Of Abraham)" makes you wish Lonnie Donegan and all those other skiffle groups of the '50s had left well alone. Beyond expenses for their first car trip from Kinston to New York and a flat fee of $150 each, Mitchell's Christian Singers never received royalty payments for the records that the American Record Company poured out. But William Brown (lead tenor), Julius Davis (tenor), Louis 'Panella' Davis (baritone) and Sam Davis (bass) left behind plenty of memorable music and from the haunting "I Heard The Preachin' Of The Elder" to the surging "Way Down In Egypt Land" this is shot full of melismatic cadences and blue notes which still work their magic all these decades on.
