Over the last 12 months or so I have become more and more aware of the growing Scottish alternative scene, of which Mogul are very much a part, albeit from the mellower end of the rock genre. This Glasgow outfit, headed up by Paul Gallagher, play a stripped down brand of indie rock that is deeply emotional, engaging and thought provoking. The nearest comparison that springs to mind is the ever-improving Sibling; in fact Paul's vocals are uncannily similar to those of Phil of Sibling. This is a band that would struggle to rock out a venue used to a harder-edged brand of rock but in the right setting (say a bar or café) would no doubt be a firm favourite amongst the regular punters. It's fairly obvious that these three songs started out as acoustic numbers and were expanded to create a bigger sound but still do feel fairly stripped down. Having said that they are still able to rock out a little on track two, "Pieces". This is a band that play a very British brand of music. My advice to you when listening to this is to just chill out, relax in your favourite chair and soak in the tunes. A few extra tracks and I may just have given it 8/10.
