Now very much a CCM institution, the Newsboys, as every fan will tell you, started in 1988 in Australia but are now very much an American band. So for over 25 years, three singers and many band members the 20th Century Masters compilers have tried to create a Best Of Newsboys in 10 tracks. "Shine" opens up the album; undoubtedly one of the most popular songs the band have produced with the chorus's famous lines of: "Shine/Make 'em wonder what you've got/Make 'em wish that they were not/On the outside looking bored". This was the style of Newsboys lyrics during the time of John James's stint on lead vocals. Peter Furler then dropped his drumsticks for "Step Up To The Microphone" in 1998. This 'Best Of' mostly features songs that are sung by Furler such as "Beautiful Sound" which shows the change in Furler's writing as he began to lead the band in a new direction. This album also features some of Newsboys' covers of famous worship songs like "In Christ Alone" which they do well. All in all, an enjoyable cheap and cheerful compilation.
