'Heart & Soul' is the acclaimed soul songster Parkes Stewart's third solo album and as soul albums go, it's got all the right ingredients. Parkes makes no bones about his musical influences. Checking Marvin Gay and Donny Hathaway in both lyric and style, 'H&S' is a good homage to soul's golden era. Lyrically, the album covers a lot of ground, from the humanitarian "My Brother" and "My Soul", through the straight forward gospel of "Free" and "This Is My Story", to the regular romanticism of "Brown Eyes" and "Always". 'Heart & Soul' is a good marriage of decent lyrics and old-style production
