The opening track “Who Do You Say That I Am” didn’t really do anything for me, which was disappointing after the stunning 15-second introduction. Fortunately, the rest of this album was a pleasant surprise and I can’t complain about any feeling of déjà vu. This is pretty solid stuff. A lot of it reminds me of Third Day’s first couple of albums (you know, the way they should have stayed?). The mid-tempo tracks are performed particularly well. Daniel Pratt’s vocals are stunning; my only complaint is that there’s so much reverb on the poor guy that it sounds like it was recorded in a subway. The lyrics read like poetry and convey a total reliance on God. Some of the tracks sound like they might transfer well to congregational worship. I like the quirky guitar sounds on the title track “Firefall” and the power chords on the worshipful “In You”. Another favourite is “Fisherman’s Thoughts” which is about responding to a call to be a disciple. Overall, a fine album.
